So, you’ve worked hard on your first single and you’re anxious about releasing your track. There’s a lot to be excited and nervous about when releasing your mixtape and it can be challenging when you’re not entirely sure what you’re doing yet. However, if you’re serious about a career, you can definitely make your mixtape something you’re proud of. As long as you do your research, experiment with your sound, and spend some time earnestly polishing your tape, your new single will sound great.
You’ve Done your Homework
There are a few levels of analysis you should do on your mixtape before you release and a few questions you need to ask yourself as a rapper. For your technical analysis, you should figure out how you most enjoy rapping, whether you prefer rhyming or using metaphors or punchlines for emphasis. There should be a solid pattern and technique in your delivery. Once you’ve analyzed yourself on a technical level, compare your track with a similar rapper. Regardless of how original your music is, there is someone who has influenced you in one way or another.
On an emotional level, figure out what general mood of your tracks. Sometimes looking into your daily life and the thoughts or issues you’re trying to overcome or your lifestyle will influence the content you’re writing on a regular basis. This can also give you a clue to what kinds of beats you use in your tracks.
Externally, you know listeners will be judging your track. Ask yourself how you’d like people to perceive you and why that’s marketable to an audience. Think about revealing your total personality over time and consider showcasing one part of your personality first.
You’ve Compared your Sonic Quality
Listen to your song back-to-back with a song on the radio. What about their song makes it sound professional as compared to yours? Improving your sonic quality if it’s not already professional sounding, is a great way to establish yourself as a serious rapper as well.
