You have worked so hard on your album, so of course you want it to succeed and climb the charts! If you are shooting for the stars and want to end up on a Billboard chart, there are many different ways that you can increase your odds of landing there. Here are four different ways that you can help your album end up on a billboard chart.
Increase Your Presale Window
Presales are a very common method of boosting sales for an album. Even large artists offer presales for the month preceding their release. The longer the period that you give fans to order your album, the higher that your sales will be. Offering only a week or two of presales will not make much of an impact on your total sales. The presales that you make will count towards your total first week album sales, so that boost can help your album climb the charts.
Use Reporting Retailers
Making a Billboard chart means getting noticed by Billboard. Sales and streams are collected by Nielsen Music/Soundscan and then reported to Billboard. While selling CDs at a launch party is a good way to give back to your fans, it’s much better to only sell them through reporting retailers. Records stores and online streaming sites all report, so encourage fans to head to sources like those instead.
Ask Your Fans
Your fans have been with you throughout the album creation process, so they want to give back to you! Don’t hesitate to ask your fans to purchase your album on social media, through newsletters, and using any other method of getting in touch with them that you have. They want to help you, so don’t be afraid.
Time Things Properly
The Billboard charts start Friday at midnight EST to the following Thursday, so time your album release accordingly. If you don’t time things properly or pay attention to when Billboard releases them, you might set yourself up for failure. Never release an album on a Wednesday, or you’ll only have a single day of sales counting towards your total.
