4 Types of People to Talk to When Trying to Book Shows

In this industry, it can sometimes be hard to find your way in, but there are people in position who hold the key to that door.

You are a musician who understands that a major part of promoting your music and name is booking live shows. From up and coming acts to established artists, getting out in front of a crowd will expand your horizons and it’s the job of yourself and your team to continually do the work to build your brand. In this industry, it can sometimes be hard to find your way in, but there are people in position who hold the key to that door.

Business Owners

Do some online research to find business owners that book live shows for their events. Art galleries, trade shows, or even seminars and conferences. Try to stay in line with an industry that would appreciate your style of music. This could ultimately lead to a relationship that could help you book multiple gigs through the same connection.

Promoters

It’s the job of a promoter to get people inside a venue. Whether it’s for a particular event or on a weekly basis, they want acts and attractions that are going to bring people to the door. You know your audience and fan base so, connecting with promoters and showing them your popularity will give them reasons that they can’t refuse.

Other Musicians

Are your friends booking gigs left and right? Ask them to introduce you to their connections or even volunteer to open for one of their shows. As a musician, you can’t operate inside of a bubble. Go out and see shows and introduce yourself to the performers after they finish their set. Be prepared to share your mixtape and support other local acts.

Your Fans

Have you seen campaigns and petitions online launched by an artist’s fan base? Your fans are a major factor in booking live shows. Get on your social media accounts and keep the communication open. Tell them what venues and cities you’d really love to play. Create a community with your fans that gets them more involved in your success.
